Whilst most of you were either sunning yourselves in the garden or shooting the 720 at Highfield’s yesterday, a few hardy Smurfs were hidden away in the dark depths of a Rainworth sports centre undergoing a peculiar form of purgatory called a Level 1 Coaching Assessment.
There were a total of ten candidates from a variety of clubs in Nottinghamshire including one candidate from as far away as the Archers of Raunds in Northamptonshire.
The amount of work and commitment required is surprising and it’s not just a case of turning up, shooting a few pointy sticks at a target and making sure beginners point the arrows in the right direction. The course involved making a commitment to attend four, day long sessions, over a period of five months, building up at least twelve hours of supported coaching (thanks to our existing coaches for the support) and memorising a multitude of toxophilitic minutia.
Everyone successfully passed the course and we now have an additional five coaches to add to our existing coaching team, making a total of ten coaches; which is probably the highest ratio of coaches to members in the county.
So congratulations to Alison, Karen, Mick, Shai and Steve on successfully passing their Level 1 Archery GB coaching qualification.
